Athletics Program

VILLANOVA ATHLETIC PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY

Wildcat Athletics believes strongly in the ideal of “Pursuing Victory with Honor.” The commitment to hard work, dedication to team, respect for all, and the embracing of good sportsmanship are cornerstones of the program. Our coaches, players, parents, and fans are expected to display these qualities at all times. Wildcat Athletics is guided by the belief that faith and family must come first and that participation in athletics must be accompanied by excellence in the classroom. Wildcat Athletics also believes in the value of competition and the life lessons that are learned as a result of participation in a competitive natured program. It is the desire of Wildcat Athletics that all scholar-athletes that participate in our program develop life skills that would include: the ability to work with others effectively, the ability to lead others in a positive manner, the ability to perform at his/her best in competitive situations, the ability to enjoy athletic activities, and the ability to develop a personal lifetime fitness philosophy.

The Wildcat Athletic Department offers multiple sports during all three sport seasons. The majority of the student body participates in at least one sport, with many participating in two or more over the course of the school year.

CIF MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the California Interscholastic Federation- Southern Section is to prepare student athletes to practice ethical behavior; including fair play, integrity, and obedience to rules. All CIF contests will represent in perception and practice, the appreciation for athletic excellence and the shared educational experience of the competition. All individuals associated with athletic activities will be aware of and responsible for their influence on the behavior of others and be models of good sportsmanship.

PARTICIPATION and ATTENDANCE

All Villanova students are encouraged to participate in athletics, however, not all students wish to participate. Students that have an interest in a sport but do not wish to play, can still get involved as a team manager or as a fan supporting her/his classmates. Scholar-athletes are reminded that it is the philosophy of Wildcat Athletics that faith and family comes first and that participation in athletics must be accompanied by excellence in the classroom. As is the nature of a competitive athletic program, Wildcat teams will engage in a regular practice schedule that may include practices on some Saturdays. Athletic contests can also be scheduled on Saturdays. It is the expectation of the athletic department that all scholar-athletes will attend all practices and games. Any and all possible conflicts must be communicated to the team coach as far ahead in advance as possible. Attendance at practice and games should be taken into consideration by a scholar-athlete before he/she commits to participating on a team.
