  • Villanova parents are extremely talented and parent participation is vital to the success of our events. We are grateful that we can rely on our parents for their continued support of our school. In order to ensure the success of many of our events, we have an expectation that every parent volunteers for at least one activity during the school year. Please think about the skills that you can contribute to Villanova.  Some of the activities that require parent volunteerism and support include: a leadership role in the Parent Association, as well as participation in the Parent Auction, the Wildcat Golf Classic, the Posada and Catholic Schools Week, to name just a few. Please take a look at the list of all opportunities below that will help you understand the various roles. We are very grateful for our parents' support!

    Activity & Event Descriptions for 

    Volunteer Opportunities

    Parent Association Leadership: Monthly meeting dates are selected by the Chair of the Parent Association based on availability.  Meetings may still be held via zoom if in-person meetings are not permitted. Positions in these key leadership roles include:

    1. Chair: Working with the Co-Chair, prepares agendas and presides at monthly meetings, represents the PA at activities and fundraisers, acts as liaison between the Headmaster and Villanova parents, coordinates with the Director of Development for activities and events
    2. Co-Chair: “Right-hand” to the Chair and performs the duties of the Chair in the absence or inability of that person to serve. Oftentimes these two positions act as Co-Chairs together and share the Chair responsibilities.
    3. Treasurer: Working with the PA Chair, the Co-Chair and Director of Development; the Treasurer reviews the yearly budget, creates a spreadsheet that captures expenses and maintains a balance total for the year, and represents the PA at activities and fundraisers.
    4. Secretary or Assistant: Takes minutes at PA meetings and distributes to members via email, often works with the leadership committee to help coordinate volunteers for events and activities, and represents the PA at activities and

     

    Wildcat Classic Golf Tournament: (October-date TBD): A fun event for all parents to get involved by volunteering and playing.  A Chairperson is needed.

    Homecoming (Fall): Parents help with decorating for the Homecoming dance.

     

    Wildcat Day (October-date TBD): Parents arrive early in the morning, serve coffee and muffins, and join-in the kick-off for the day.

    Christmas Posada (early December-date TBD): The parents help prepare the luminaries for the presentation of the Posada and provide/set-up refreshments after the procession.  All grade levels and family participation welcome.  

    Catholic Schools Week-Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon (January 24th - 28th):  A luncheon is held on campus in the dining room on Friday, January 28th for our faculty and staff. Lunch is prepared by our kitchen and the luncheon is hosted by all grade level parents. Volunteering includes decorating tables in themes that volunteers choose, small gifts are usually part of the table decor and parents create several gift baskets to raffle off.

    Annual Auction (April 8, 2022): This is the primary fundraiser and gala of the school year. It is a fun-filled evening.  Parent volunteers from all grade levels are needed to make the event a success and there are many opportunities for volunteering from procurement, to assembling baskets, decorating, set-up and clean-up.  A chairperson (or two co-chairs) for the auction and chairs for the various committees are needed.  Planning starts in the fall and ongoing meetings will be held as we get closer to the date of the auction.

    International Day (April 11, 2022): Mostly a student lead day, parents help with performance attire and food, and as spectators!

    Baccalaureate Mass/Reception (May 28th): Baccalaureate mass at St. Thomas Aquinas in Ojai on the eve of graduation, followed by an hors d’oeuvres and dessert reception for the senior class and their guests, traditionally hosted by the junior class parents.  Freshman and sophomore parents needed also.

    Graduation Reception (May 29th):  An on campus cake and punch reception for the graduates and their guests following the Graduation Ceremony, traditionally hosted by the junior class parents. Freshman and sophomore parents needed also.   

    Class Liaisons (ongoing through-out the year): The class liaisons are instrumental in recruiting parents from their class for several activities through-out the year.  Having multiple liaisons for each class is helpful. Some of the activities include:

    1. First Day of School Morning Coffee (questionable for the start of this school year):   An informal early morning coffee held in front of the gym for new parents to meet returning parents. Freshman parents, please be our guests.  Hosted by sophomore, junior and senior parents.
    2. Junior Class Leadership/Blessing (date-TBD): A special evening mass for junior students and families, held at St. Thomas Aquinas in Ojai.  A reception follows the mass and is traditionally hosted by the sophomore class parents. Class liaisons will contact parents for their help with this event. Freshman and senior parents are welcome to volunteer also!  
    3. Senior Breakfasts (dates-TBD if/when able):  Four breakfasts held on school days throughout the year.  Ojai/Oak View homes are needed to host (must accommodate approximately 50-60 students inside or outside). Parents help with preparation, serving and clean-up, senior parents will be contacted by the parent liaisons for the senior class to plan. 
    4. Class Basket: Each class creates a basket for the parent auction, many times the class baskets raise the most money! The class liaison coordinates the creation of the theme and reaches-out to parents for their contributions, all parents are encouraged to contribute.
