St Paul in today’s reading: “It is the hour for you to wake up” Well then, wake up to waiting because Advent is here! But how can we wake up and prepare for the coming of the Lord? And how can we more deeply understand the truth that God so loved the world that he sent his only Son (John 3:16)?
Here is one suggestion to make this time of waiting something akin to spiritual caffeine and cold showers: Give moments intentionally each day to silent contemplation of the truly awesome truth that God took on human flesh. The absolute humility is staggering if we allow ourselves to see with the eyes of the heart. If we manage this then I have no doubt that the gift of these moments will be rewarded with another greater gift: that of the light, joy and peace that shine from this mystery of Christ’s mass. Worth waking up for.
