December 18th

In today’s Gospel Joseph wants to divorce Mary, to whom he is engaged to be married, in order to save her from rumors about her pregnancy. Joseph is going through a struggle and makes his plan to protect Mary and himself.

One of the big takeaways for me, in this Gospel is that God has a better, bigger plan for Joseph and Mary, and by extension, for us. It is also important to remember that the angel’s first words to Joseph were “do not be afraid”. Those are God’s words to us also. God wants to come into the struggles of our lives. His words to us are “do not be afraid, I am with you”. Jesus, whose name means “to deliver”, is with us.
