catholic Liturgies

Liturgy is at the heart and soul of Villanova, a time for the school community to come together at Mass to pray, participate in the sacrament, and share fellowship. Students are encouraged to participate in the liturgies by serving as a lector, an altar server, singing in music ministry, playing a musical instrument , or even running the sound board.

mass and liturgies

All-school Masses are generally celebrated twice a month in the Clark Gymnasium. A number of Augustinian priests and local pastors come to preside at Mass for the Villanova community throughout the school year. During Catholic Schools Week in the winter, the Mass presider might be a local pastor, an Augustinian priest, or the regional bishop, Bishop Robert Barron.

Villanova has a special Grandparents’ Day Mass in October in which students’ grandparents come to the all-school Mass and then join their grandchildren for lunch.

Villanova also has all-school Masses on holy days of obligation during the school year. On days when there is no all-school Mass, Fr. Alvin Paligutan, O.S.A., chaplain and Religion faculty member, presides at daily Mass, seven in the morning, in the school's St. Thomas of Villanova Chapel. Mass is also celebrated twice a month on Sundays at ten in the morning in the chapel with our resident students, staff members, faculty, and visiting guests.  Please contact Fr. Alvin for Sunday Mass dates.  All are welcome to attend.
